How to Create Rules in Outlook Express 2000, XP, 2003

It is generally a good idea to create rules in Outlook Express to put email marked with "SPAM" in the subject area in a unique folder. Below you will find directions to create these rules.

1) Open Outlook Express. Select Tools > Message Rules >Mail...



2) Click on New...



3)Check the boxes as shown in the picture to the right. Click on 'contains specific words' in the box marked 3. Rule Description.



4) Type [SPAM] in the space provided and click Add. Then click OK.



5) Click on the word 'specified' to define a folder to move the messages to.



6) Select the Inbox, then click New Folder.



7) To create a SPAM folder type the word SPAM. Then click OK.



8) Under option 4 type in SPAM Filtering, then click OK.



9) Make sure the check box next to the word SPAM Filtering is checked, then click OK.



10) Now you will see the folder SPAM under the Inbox. All emails that fail the SPAM Filtering tests will be automatically placed in that folder.
